A cover letter is used to:
- make a positive first impression
- introduce yourself and ask for consideration of your qualifications for a position with that organization
- summarize and highlight points on your resume
- communicate your interest in and enthusiasm for the position and that employer
- convince an employer that you have something valuable to contribute and that it is worth their time to interview you
