Career Assessment and Self Evaluation Workshop

An exploration of some of the factors that contribute to our career decisions, interests, aptitudes, personality and values will be assessed.

Researching Your Career

In order to make effective career decisions, it's important to know information about your options. We will discuss trends that affect employment opportunities, methods to find out relevant information about careers and use credible websites to research your career options.

Surviving the Job Search

Skills identification, realities of the workplace, labour market information, generating job leads, cover letter writing, job searching using the internet, interview skills.

NOTE - topics are covered in module format as follows and you may sign up for any number or combination -

  1. What Do You Have To Offer ? - assists indivduals to identify their skills based on their past experiences using pride stories exercise. Also, increases awareness of what skills employers are expecting from job searchers today.

  2. The Reality of Today's Workplace / Generating Job Leads / Coverletter Writing / Internet Job Searching - allows individuals to learn about the changing world of work and explore the workplace of the future. In addition, participants will learn some effective techniques to secure a job including networking, cover letter writing, accessing local websites.

  3. Interview Skills - learn practical techniques for preparing for the interview, responding to interview questions, and following up from the interview. In addition, an optional mock interview will be offered.

Safety in the Workplace

To increase awareness of what a safe workplace should be and how to identify hazards in the workplace, laws around workplace safety and how to prepare to work safely.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

Hazardous materials are found in many workplaces. This workshop will help to increase your awareness of the WHMIS classification system, and how to protect yourself while at work.
